First Discipline
is a network of management development practitioners committed to the imperative of new paradigms in management in the Indian context.
‘First Discipline’ deals with the prerequisites and competences for sustained high performance of individuals, organisations and communities. Built around a meta framework and methodology perfected over two decades, the practice facilitates accelerated learning of the discipline. From 1990 to 2007, the approach was tested in a wide variety of learning environments to perfect the tools and methodology for facilitating accelerated community wide learning. The approach that evolved is process and dialogue based, works in real time, stretches oneself / the team and aligns with the deeper levels of the self for sustained high performance and continuous improvement .
FD offers an integration tool and methodology to bring together eco-literacy, spirituality of work, system thinking, cultural archetypes, continual renewal, mental maps, personal mastery, and many other perspectives which together serves as an operating system of the self at different levels
Learning faster than the competition is the competitive edge. Best practices and standards can at best create followers. The learning requirements for outperforming the competition vary with levels and contexts. They also fall under multiple dimensions like technology, markets, culture, process, continual renewal, and metrics of improvement.
To propel any organisation on a trajectory of sustained high performance, a critical mass of people needs to master these meta-competencies - that of installing and maintaining the community learning engine. Though learning requirements follow from the strategic perspective, impact points could be any area where a turnaround in performance is an immediate priority. |
